Westfield resumes census taking

Census crews in Westfield began going door to door Dec. 5. They will be out daily and will provide updates throughout the process.
The City of Westfield requested a special census in 2024 to update the official population count count. The figure is expected to provide additional funding commensurate with population growth. City leaders said the Westfield’s population is underrepresented, which affects distribution of state and federal funds.
The census started in August but was halted because of the federal government shutdown that began Oct. 1.
